CONTAX N Digital 6.2 Megapixel Interchangeable Lens SLR Digital Camera listed for $7k listed..... 03-03-2002 CeBit in germay (comdex equivalent) is coming,
and that is for most parts going to be more interesting than the PMA, since it is a world event, it will have many implications for the industry, stockmarkets, new products. Most exiting for me, finnaly an
announcement about a improved DIN-A4 dyesub printer from Olympus ( old P-400), hope they fixed it to print a full 8x10 page, please.... possible annoucement about the Kodak/Oly SLR product, where they
want to make a new standard.....yeah, right, without Nikon and Canon, that will go over well, remember the APS SLR's ... great for small cameras, would'nt mind to have cartridge loading with 135 and 120 film, but
all they want is sell their custom machines for there on product, leaveing the customer out, aka, photo-cd, where they never released the code, so eventually it died. 03-02-2002 PPA March 1-4, 2002 at the Sheraton INN Plymouth. drove down there with my frined Paul Bobkowski, kind of a last minute thing for me, and eded up enjoying it
very much, a relaxed concference, surrounded with professional photographers, without the "big convention" runnaround. big applause: Kirk Voclain , exellence as
a speaker, with funny style, jokes, talking with hands and feet, camera and photoshop, pritty good acting, for a photographer.., down to earth, he'will rattle your brains, with answers, like a machine gun, with witty
style, before you can sip your water, he will shoot another joke, or paraphrase another situation, pitfalls in the daily live of a photographer. but biggest value, he will share is secrete how and why he does bussiness,
and you too can improve. Paul Bobkowski : he won first prce 2002, don't know for the other years,...you got to love his B&W TRI-X shots, of course it helps that he develops and prints himself,
his master pieces, and it helps that he is useing first class prime lenses, ether from Hasselblad and Nikon, old style manual focus, metering , what's that, Las Vegas style, been there, done that, I know what to do,
confidence 'do jour'. Emmet Robinson, held a exellent speach about "customer Service", this is a must, especially for coorporate managment, but even a doorman or somebody working at a
fastfood chain, will benefit from it in his/her professional carrier. It's not that he is not trying to be funny, but this is definitly a course, what should be held early, since some fell asleep, on that
subject,..... He does have a book published, "How to keep your customers forever", what will be on my shopping list, He's approach, and technique, will have a bigger success rate than any photographic equipment,
unless you allready are the top 100 photographer of this planet. Robert Jenks, PPA award from last year, ( had to leave early, so I don't know his awards for this year). just had a chance to have dinner
with him, as he is an old from from Bobkovski...... 02-28-2002 Primefilm 3600 PRO film scanner is not yet shipping, maybe another 2-3 weeks. not the high end, but convinient, firewire, and roll-feed or stripes without holder...

02-17-2002 Sony ICX413AQ 6MP CCD, at dpreview.com spec sheets,... http://www.framos.de/produkte/ccdsensoren/image/frame_read_sys_de.framos and sonys techical slide show http://www.framos.de/pdf_sheets/Preston-SONY_CNCE.pdf it's a good think, since sony is a maystream manufacturer, that can deliver mass market
consumer products, without the professional pricetag from Kodak or others... from the documentation, I read, that mass production is slated end of June 2002,...so I would not expect anything in digital cameras before
december,... Sony's 10MP B&W ccd, is probably on the same timeline, but I would think, that it will be used primarily on medical systems, darn, I'd love to see a color/mono version of a digital camera.....
from the specs,... 80db ratio, I would think that it will be not exview had ccd , since those have over 100db. darn, would that be nice for low light shots, I guess the video-camera guys, will see it first.
02-13-2002 digital panorama stiching, ran across an interesting site,....for the ones that might opt for a digital to cover their landscape sites.... http://www.caldwellphotographic.com/NYCMosaics.html?1013489493850 02-12-2002 Jenoptik ,germany, recall a while ago, that
they have a medium format version with a philips sensor 6MP FTF3020-C, same type used in the contax N1 digital, but with an announced upgrade path, get one now and get the 11MP later this year, for 6k euro http://www.eyelike.de/eyelike/downloads_presse/Sensor_Update.PDF ....but it's good news, finally the first digital
back manufacturer (medium format) to offer an upgrade path for a product. so far unheard of, but's it's deffinitly something I'd like to see for the pro PJ's too with their 35mm digital. 6MP to 11MP,...note:
the 11MP in 16shot mode 244MB, also note that their eyelike 6MP single shot, can already do up to 25MP multishot, for still shots. http://www.eyelike.de/eyelike/frame/frameset/f_kameras.html

why it's a real contender, for the stopgap of full frame CCD . It's the fillfactor and the interpolation due the hexagon shape, the fuji S1 had a lowest iso of 320, the new fuji S2 will go down to 100, but should
still be great for low light shots. http://www.finepix.com/f601_ccd.html The new Fuji S2 (at www.dpreview.com)will have the new super ccd III, shure with 2fps, it's not a fast shooter. but for slow/studio work, and low light, it should be great. when? don't think, they will
ship before august. here is another article you might whant to translate with babelfish ,... http://www.finepix.com/technology/super_ccd_01.html

2Fnews_r%2Fnrj869a.html meanwhile Nikon will also have something to announce. 02-01-2001 Sunpak TR-2000 batterypack, after talking to a sales guy,...it looks, the first shipment of 300 end of or at PMA,
nicad only first, 1/2 year later NiMH packs, and one hour charger down the road, their website www.tocad.com will get a an update too. this battery pack, will support 6V
and 330V flash systems, basic competition for the quantum turbo packs. 01-31-2002 Metz SCA 3202 M2 has finally arrived,...for the 54MZ-3 in use for the E10/E20N,....testing/transitioning is scheduled..
01-27-2002 rumors, rumors ,.... the PMA show in Orlando,Florida is coming up, and till then , sleepless nights, of dreams, worries, and speculations are in the air.
New cameras are on the way,....some shops are out of stock with the canon D30 digital, fuji stopped production on their S1 pro,and the new D60 should be annonce end of february, and hopfully in you hands by June ....
Contax has delayed their official shippment till march 12th on the contax N-1 digital 6MP, and Fuji is to anounce 01-30-2002 their new super-chip III, what should be used in a new fullframe sensor, and not
like their old Fuji Pro S1, will finnaly spec a better body, delivery might be around august, with a price , I guess higher than $6k(?? $8k), autch.... Nikon will show some promise to fill in for the amateur or low
budged Photojournalist, with a new digital 4.5MP and 1.5x focal multiplier, price, hmm just guess to be around $3.5k. Canon has some new lenses out their, one of them a 28-105mm F2.8 L lens, nice but no cigar, since
I want IS (image stabilizer) with it, oh price, pickpocket deep, like all "L" lenses. Kodak has a new mono , B&W version of their DCS 760, for ~$11k, and no, it's not the same as shooting color and just do a
photoshop on it, the sensor makes the difference, it's better in low light, it's sharper, since no color pixel interpolation is necessary, higher fill factor of the ccd, greater tonal range, a real marvel for the
B&W folks, or sience applications. Leica fans are desperatly waiting for news,....a tech merger might be the answer... Hasselblad, has announce their losses, and they show their old proven tincans in new
colors, so a couple more years, so far a nice 6x6 beats those PJ's digital hands down. Minolta, no news on digital SLR's, just a new pocket, eh, credit-card size digital, that's it. 01-20-2002 Photographer Paul Pope has some beach shots with his new Canon 1D and 70-200mm F2.8 IS lens.....for all the other who got to live with snow and Nikon.....
01-15-2002 my 340MB microdrive died! after getting my new organizer, the Casio BE-300 , I used it there, and apperently it did not survive the pocket enviroment, it does now a funny sound, like invaders, and is
not recognized by the camera or organizer. So what's next, another microdrive, no thanks, looks like, it's going to be the RiData 512MB compactflash card.

can use the dealer locater on our website to find your local camera shops, or call some of these mail order locations listed below.

After an 1/2 hr back and forth, why can't I order it if it is officially available ?,... no we
don't have a part number ....blah,blah, I called Calumet, no we don't have it, ....after a litle poke, why don't you check with bogen, and give me call back ,..... 10 minutes later , I placed an order , for the
adapter $49, with a promise of 1-3 weeks. So a big high-five, or 5 star rating from me for www.calumetphoto.com for their professional response.
01-13-2002 Sunpak TR-2000 advertised at www.bhphoto.com for $299 plus cable, sold out. 01-05-2002 Pentax 645NII
had finally seen it on the web,....at www.sunsetcamera.com for ~$1900, it's comeing , finally with a mirror lockup, YES. and the 35mm F3.5 is available too, what would
be a 20mm in 35mm terms...and the 150mm F2.8 price came down too, overall I still like to get the contax 645, but everthing is 2x the price, but the biggest drawback on the contax setup is, no zooms available, and
battery life really sucks.
01-04-2002 Batterypack from Sunpak TR-2000 B&H has it now advertised for $299, 24ounce, and with different cables it can do 300V or 6V, for pritty much all the
flashes, great, and battery modules could be added in nicad or NiMH, so with extra packs to clip of/on, and drive different voltages, sounds great to me.
pros: small weight, small price , modular, dual voltage support, led display on charge cons: it's a sunpak,...your trusty quantum turbo Z is not obsolete, just the oposite, since they use lead-acid batterys,
your charge will be still there, even after weeks, same with the great units from lumedyne.
12-25-2001 Shutterbug January 2002, a nice review of the Pentax 150mm F2.8 lens for the 645N AF camera. what to say,
have to wipe my grin of my face, ... a F2.8 on a 645 medium format, with the exellent coating from pentax, that should kick some Hassy ass,... not really, but shure it should help on the AF autofocus side, and
internal focusing is nice, not to have the lense extent. 12-23-2001 SUNPAK 's TR-2000 a nice modular batterypack for your flash system, advertised in the popular photography magazine with a full
page,....well no signs of it on the sunpaks website www.tocad.com yet. does 6V and 330V, and has nicad and NiMH battery clusters, what sounds interesting. Will see ounce it comes out.
12-19-2001 one of my buddys, added a Nikon coolpix 5000 to his Leica camera bag, where he carries two R8's and numerous lenses,... wait , correction, it's for his wife......
12-15-2001 Metz
54MZ-3 for the digital Olympus E-10 and E-20 , to replace the FL-40,.... I guess the SCA adapter 3202 , so far is not in site in the usa, so back to Germany, maybe mailorder, or even better skip the oly's digital
world altogether.... well, the Metz 54MZ-3 is still on my christmas wish list, since it would play with my Minolta 800si, and my Olympus E-10, and it would play with the Nikon F5 with D lenses in 3D matrix mode
too, and you can finally opt for a nice battery powerpack, like the Quantum turbo Z, to cut down on the recharge wait.....
12-17-2001 one of my buddys got his Nikon 8000ED medium format film
scanner,......after a long wait, finally,....now, what, well hell scan some 35mm slides, till he can get to it to upgrade his computer, so he can scann the 645 slides with over 400MB.... 11-25-2001 Pentax
645NII finally with mirror lockup, yes, but no official word on the release, and ounce they do, what price ? maybe $2400 ? autsch, unless you shoot marco on a cement floor, a new tripod head might be cheaper, than
again, would it make a difference for handheld shots, like it does with the big Berta, pentax 67II ?? who knows, anybody already testing?
